Resource Consent Applications

The Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA) sets out that resource consents are needed for activities associated with the Project. 

Applications were lodged with Chatham Islands Council on 31 March 2010.

Environmental effects identified to date are summarised here

Consents sought comprise the following:

Coastal Permits
•    Construct Collector Channel and Collector Structure.
•    Disturb foreshore and seabedduring construction.
•    Occupy foreshore and seabed by Collector Channel and Collector Structure.
•    Use of water to extract energy.
•    Discharges - disturbance of foreshore and seabed during construction.

Land use Consents
•    Access track from Project Site to Waitangi-Tuku Road (incl. culverts).
•    Turbine housing and ancillary buildings within Area of Significant Natural Values.
•    Operate Wave Energy Power Plant and associated activities 

Water Permit
•    Water permit to divert stormwater for use in Turbine Operation.

Discharge Permit
•    Discharge air from the turbine house following passage through collector structure and generation turbine
•    Discharge stormwater to ground from Structures and Turbine rinse operation.

On the basis of the analysis set out in the AEE, activities associated with the Project are consistent with relevant CIRMD policies and objectives.
